Happy holidays, Spooky Fam! Happy Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza, Solstice and New Year. We wish you joy in whatever you are celebrating, and if you are celebrating nothing, we wish you peace in that as well. 2022 Has been a rollercoaster for those of us who work in entertainment and tech…and particularly for those of us building in web3/blockchain. There has been a lot of chaos and tragedy, but there is also a lot to be grateful for. For the Brovember Rain team, the absolute highlight of the year was getting the first Spooky Pets collection out the door, finding the people who cared enough to be part of the community, loading up the philanthropic fund, and finding so many good and worthy animals (and their helpers) to whom we could deploy it.

So as we close out 2022, we’d like to give you an update on all of the animals that you, our Spooky Pets community, have helped this year. Every rescue organization is different, and running towards danger means every situation is fluid, so in some cases we don’t have as much information as we would like, but we will keep checking and update often.

One quick aside before we get to the important stuff:

ICYMI!! the Spooky Pets have arrived on YouTube to wish you a “Scary Solstice and an Eldritch New Year”. If you have 60 seconds, give us a view and sing along!

And now, without further ado…

Abby and the desert dogs at Love Them All Rescue

Our very first sponsorship turned out as well, or better than we could have ever imagined. Abby (who is now named Birdie) was adopted into a loving home and family. She is happy and healthy, and lives with her new parents and new dog brother in AZ.

Harley at Retired Police K9 Foundation

If you remember Harley, the rescue pittie who found a career in police detection, you know that when the Spooky Pets community chose him, we were essentially sponsoring his hospice. Every dog, especially a working dog, deserves a good life from beginning to end. The team at RPK9 did right by Harley and gave him the most peaceful and comfortable last days possible. We’re sad to see him go, but we’re happy he lived an extraordinary life and got the care he deserved til the end. Good boy.

Uno and the Envigo Beagles at Kindness Ranch

The team at Kindness Ranch played a very important part in the Humane Society’s historic Beagle Freedom project. KR took in hundreds of beagles, in waves, from the Envigo facility and has placed a number of them in loving homes. The very first beagle to arrive, Uno, was adopted by Kindness Ranch’s Exec Director, John Ramer and is living his absolute best life as a four wheeling ranch dog. You love to see it.

Lorelai and Rory at Forgotten Now Family Rescue

We’re still awaiting updates on Lorelai and Rory. Aside from severe neglect, there was an initial scare with Rory, who was fighting a high fever and infection after intake. Rory pulled through, and otherwise, we think they are on the road to recovery and socialization.

Moose, Alice, Matty, Raf and Coco at Country Roads Animal Rescue

We have some very happy news about Moose, Alice and their puppies (the greatest Danes). Though only three of the puppies survived, the remaining pups are doing very well, particularly considering the level of neglect they experienced. Moose has been adopted and is thriving. Alice is adapting and socializing very well, has gone in for a spay, and is on the road to adoptable. As for the three puppies: Matty has been adopted, Raf had hernia surgery performed and is now 100% and Rocco has some mild deformities that he should grow out of. Otherwise, he is in overall good health.

Grace at 4 Dogs Farm Animal Rescue

We have some new information on Grace. The last we heard, her first amputation was successfully performed and she was recovering before doctors attempted her second. Because she is a classic terrier with high energy and tenacity, Grace could be a good candidate for wheels in the future.

Eartha Kitt and The Notorious DOGG at Shar-Pei Nation

La di da di da…it’s the MF D.O. double G. Apparently, we aren’t the only ones who love a pei. Both Eartha and DOGG underwent successful entropion surgery and are living comfortably in their new foster homes. Another happy ending for the Spooky Pets family.

Schnitzel and friends at I Stand With My Pack

Gotta take the good with the bad. We have some bad news and some good news from our friends at ISWMP. Bad news first: unfortunately, after his initial assessment, Napoleon’s condition deteriorated rapidly. His lameness (due to a degenerative condition) quickly became more debilitating and was untreatable. Napoleon crossed the rainbow bridge in the loving arms of his caretakers and ISWMP family. Good boy.

As for our boy, Schnitzel AND Falafel AND Perry Wrinkles:

Adopted, adopted, adopted. All three dogs are now living the life with their new families. Schnitzel’s vaccine reaction was a minor hiccup on his road to his forever home and he should have no lasting health issues.

Troy at Love Leo Rescue

OF COURSE big Troy got adopted. After his successful surgery to repair a broken pelvis, Troy was good as new and out the door. We wish every rescue could go this smoothly. Troy has a long, healthy life ahead of him.

Lucas at Black Cat Holistic Rescue

This is certainly one of the best updates we will share. The prognosis for paralysis or any neurological deficit can be opaque. So when Lucas’ treatment began, we were’t sure how successful it would be. After several months, however, he is showing marked improvement. He is exhibiting both feeling and mobility. Of course, with the return of sensation comes the return of pain, but Lucas and his foster mom are doing an excellent job keeping up his therapy routine and he should get stronger every day.

The Team at Action for Animals

We haven’t gotten any updates from Action for Animals Humane Society, but they are still doing the good work in western Pennsylvania. We also bought a Spooky Pets engraved brick on the grounds, so as soon as we know where to look, we’ll get someone out there for a photo op!

AFAHS

Chanel at Bullies and Buddies

This is actually a bittersweet update for us. Chanel is doing great! She is friendly, well behaved, healthy and an absolutely gorgeous dog…but she has received no adoption interest. In the wake of the pandemic, we’ve been seeing an inordinate amount of GSDs, Belgians American Shepherds and related breeds being abandoned or rehomed. As tends to happen, when a breed becomes popular, a lot of the wrong people seek them out and then ditch them when the trend is waning…which is particularly sad, because GSDs and their cousins are fantastic dogs. If you’re reading this, give Chanel a share and let’s find her a home!

Diego at The Bullpen Way Station and Sanctuary

This is a tough one. Diego was a long shot. But like we say around here: we are longshots who are in the business of longshots. We were really hoping that Diego would pull through, but given the condition in which he was discovered, we knew it would be a difficult road. The team at the Bullpen did everything they could for him, even rushing him to Univ or Georgia for emergency surgery to remove eighteen inches of necrotic colon. In the end, Diego’s ailments were too much and he developed sepsis. What’s important. though, is that he got all of the love in the world for a brief time, and when he left, he didn’t go alone. Good boy.

Hermione at Sisu Refuge

Thanks to the Spooky Pets community, Hermione is getting some extra care and was able to see an opthomologist to assess her vision issues, which seem to be nothing more than conjunctivitis. Things look bright, and for now, Hermione is back at Sisu with Elmer, living out a romance for the ages and (we assume) serving attitude, elegance and luxury.

Sage at Rescue City

We have a very positive update about Sage. He is now eight months old, twenty five pounds, and a very healthy parvo survivor. He has found a wonderful foster and is training for his forever home. His siblings, Wishbone and Roux are also well and we expect nothing but the best for all of them.

Sage

Blanc at Korean Paws

Blanc is one of the surviving-est dogs ever to survive and we are 1000% here for it. The team at Korean Paws continues to give her excellent care. The Spooky Pets community donation helped get Blanc in for a senior eval, where she was prescribed treatment and a special diet to help her enjoy her golden years. Huge upgrade from the shelter, huge, huge upgrade from the streets, and huge, huge, huge upgrade from the meat farm.

Blanc

Dumpling at Rebel Dogs Detroit

We are waiting to hear more about Dumpling’s condition and prognosis, but we do know that her initial eval showed a severe fracture that will require either surgical repair or amputation. We are hoping for the best and will look for updates. In the meantime, the good news is that Dumpling is getting excellent care and should be a very adoptable dog in the future.
